Joe DiMaggio Lighter Display

12" tall x 9" wide

Huggins & Scott  Auction Page

This was a steal. I almost bid on it myself, except it would have crashed the party in the only place I have to put it. If I replaced the Big League Bat Lighter display I have in my curio, it would have been wider and messed up everything. One of these auctioned in an August 2006 Leland's auction for $2,062.57. Then another one was auctioned in a February 2007 Leland's-Gaynor monthly auction for $1,058.77. Now the photos on the Lelands.com site of the one that sold for $2,062.57 and the one that sold for  $1,058.77 look identical, so I don't know if Leland's experienced a roll-back or what. As for Huggins & Scott's dating it to the 1950's, I'm not seeing it. From the looks of the lighters, more like late 1960's-early 1970's to me. Nevertheless it's a killer piece. I think this one in Huggins Scott slipped thru the cracks. The moral to the story? Keep an eye out for Huggins & Scott Auctions and nail the sleepers!

commentary: This is one of the rarest football programs there is. I've seen a hand full of the 1875-80 Harvard Yale programs over the years, but for some reason these prehistoric Cal Stanford ones seem to be a lot more rare. It's 10" tall by 7" wide, has a thin strip of tape on spine, and a small crease in the bottom right corner. This was the third Cal Stanford game, the first two were both in 1892. Note, I had a real hard time posting this as I have the poster!

12 ½” INCHES TALL

auction has ended

sold for

$293.00

This extra wide style print is what's called a "yard long". They were produced from about 1900 to 1920. It's one of the best sports yard longs. There are two other football ones as I recall, and some baseball ones I think. This one has been adhered to a wood board, but still looks good. A great football display piece
